Batter up! ⚾️💫
This past weekend the Dodger Stadium unveiled Branly Cadet’s 9’ Sandy Koufax statue. This is the second statue of Cadet’s to be installed in the Centerfield Plaza alongside Jackie Robinson, which was installed in 2017. With the help of a solid 2 1/2” stainless steel rod we were able to perfect Sandy Koufax’s signature kick! We at Artworks hope you take your family out to a ball game to take in Sandy Koufax and his bronze 9’ glory. You can view a video of the unveiling at the link below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr1X0hyCgz4

We are always honored to be a part of projects that showcase our Bay Area community. We are happy to announce the unveiling of the life size sculpture of former San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee at
The project was brought to us by artist Deborah Samia and Jonah Hendrickson in October of last year. Like all of our projects we used the lost wax casting method, while utilizing 3D printing for the basketball Ed Lee holds. The former mayor was in the best hands of our metal worker Ben and our patina artist Aiya!
Ed Lee will be seated at the steps of the Chase Center where all can visit and take photos with him. Check out more about the unveiling in this SF Chronicle article:

Between 1865 to 1950, thousands of African Americans were victims of mob violence and lynching across the United States” - EJI Lynching in America
Artworks Foundry is proud to have been a part in the “Arise” Community Remembrance Project with the in Montgomery, Alabama. The monument features six life size figures that were sculpted by artist . Each figure is a direct descendant of both documented or undocumented lynching.
We have been developing this project with Branly Cadet and the since the beginning of 2021. Each of the figures took many months to complete through the lost wax casting method. Once each figure was casted in bronze, our talented metal finisher Steen Kjorlie spent countless hours welding each figure together!
The monument can be found at the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama. We hope that you can appreciate this monument and its moment in history as much as we have.

Have you ever wondered just what it takes to make bronze sculptures? Here is a behind the scenes look at the conjunction of an artist's vision, and the many hands that make the fabrication possible. We weld, grind, look, grind some more, and in the end we turn a patchwork of metal into the dream of the artist.
Once the metal chasing was finished these sculptures were painted, loaded up, and driven to their new home at 1455 Third Street in San Francisco. The final part of the process is the installation, where all of our hard work is rewarded by the joy we see from the artist . Check out our last post to see
“Holographic Entities Reminding of the Universe” fully installed, and if you are in San Francisco, go see these beautiful outdoor sculptures!

“Holographic Entities Reminding of the Universe” is an installation of nine bronze sculptures cast by which reflect Masako Miki’s interest in ancestral traditions and folklore. These artworks are inspired by shapeshifters, who reinvent themselves by embracing dualities and celebrating new identities. Enjoy walking through this gorgeous installation at the Uber
Headquarters on 1455 Third Street in San Francisco.

Dear Foundry Friends!
We’d like to share some exciting news about Artworks. We are entering a new phase in our 45-year history, as Piero is beginning a well deserved break from the daily operations of running the foundry. He has worked tirelessly for many years to make Artworks one of the top foundries in the country. And, he is now putting ownership of the foundry in very capable hands.
Kambiz Mehrafshani, our current chief operations officer, has become an invaluable leader here in the last year and a half, and worked with Piero for 3 years as the liaison with San Diego Zoo’s Rex The Lion project—the largest bronze in Artwork’s history.
Julian Mussi has an impressive career as an entrepreneur starting, running, and selling successful companies. He just coincidentally happens to be Piero’s son! They will both be leading and steering Artworks Foundry into the future.
If you haven’t met Kambiz or Julian, we welcome your visit to get acquainted.
Be assured that Piero is not disappearing—he will be keeping an eye on this younger generation and help whenever and wherever he is needed. We think you’ll agree that after many years of hard work he deserves to enjoy life outside of the day-to-day hustle and bustle of running a business.
What we are planning is a renewed energy and efficiency brought to the quality of our work and the client relationships that make Artworks such a special place. It is this relationship with you, our customers, that makes Artworks the unique and successful business it has become.
Kambiz will oversee the large, special projects and Julian will be handling the production side of the foundry. Tom will continue as Sales Manager and will handle pricing and new orders and all the rest of the staff will be here to continue the quality and timeliness you have come to expect. In fact, now would be a great time to place that order for your next masterpiece!
We want to thank all of you for your many years of trust in us, and we look forward to many more to come. This is another exciting chapter in the continuing story of Artworks Foundry.
Sincerely,
Artworks Foundry
