Exciting News: New Partnerships at Flowhouse! 🎉🌟
We’re thrilled to announce our new collaborations with two incredible organizations that share our passion for art, culture, and community.
First, we welcome the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts , who will be doing a residency at Flowhouse in September! Get ready to experience a month filled with rich cultural programming, performances, and creative exploration right here in our space.
We’re also partnering with BrasArte (), a nonprofit dedicated to preserving Brazilian arts and culture in the Bay Area. They’ll be offering weekly classes at Flowhouse, bringing the vibrant rhythms and traditions of Brazil to our community. Stay tuned for details on their upcoming schedule!
We’re honored to host these amazing organizations and can’t wait to see the incredible energy they’ll bring to Flowhouse.

🦋 Dear BrasArte Community 🦋
We hope this message finds you well and in good spirits. We are writing to share important news regarding our beloved cultural space at the Capoeira Arts Foundation Building (1901 San Pablo Ave Berkeley), which has been our home for over 15 years.
As some of you may have heard, we must say farewell to our current dance, music, and performance space. While this news may initially bring feelings of uncertainty, we urge you to see this moment as an opportunity for growth and renewal.
Like the butterfly, BrasArte is poised to transform. We have remained a strong community through several changes over the years and look forward to that same strength in the future. We are reimagining what our dance community can be—a chance to spread our wings and explore new possibilities. While we cherish the memories we have created in our current space, let us look forward with excitement and new opportunities for the future.
While the future is still an open road for us, please be assured that we will continue to offer community classes and special workshops, and that our BrasArte family will be the first to be informed of what lies ahead.
We acknowledge our dedicated teachers, staff, and volunteers, whose passion and guidance have been the heart of our community. About Jaguar:
Jaguar Santana is a native of Salvador, Bahia and has been dancing and teaching the art of Samba de Gafieira for 15 years. Outside of Salvador, Jaguar has toured internationally in Europe and Canada, bringing his unique perspective on Gafieira based on his passion for its evolutionary bases, including the study, and deepening, of the Afro languages that permeate Samba de Gafieira and all the languages of variants of Samba.
Nationally, Jaguar has taught at some of the biggest Samba de Gafieira congresses: Samba Maniacos, Encontro Ginga de Samba, Gafieira Brasil Nordeste, and more
Class Description
During our Samba de Gafieira (partner samba) classes, we will connect with the elements that constitute the core of the gafieira, the principles that precede thinking about samba as a couple, thus learning the reasons and sensations for which one chooses to move in that way in samba (with vibration, fluidity, liquidity) building bases to dialogue and connect with oneself, with others, and with the culture and history of samba. As we dance individually and as a couple, we will learn the basic elements that constitute the formal language of samba de gafieira but always with room for improvisation, as the dance is alive and is created by those who dance.

BrasArte is raising funds for our annual toy drive for kids in Santo Amaro, Bahia. Conceicao had a special connection with this wonderful community and always tried to help them as much as possible. We are doing this in her memory and in the memory of our wonderful friend Nicinha of Santo Amaro.
