Lovely to find a new bench at the top of Indian Trail across from Great Stoneface Park. Thank you, path neighbors!

Our May newsletter and events!

May News: Walk Bonanza We are fortunate at Berkeley Path Wanderers Association to have wonderful walk leaders who volunteer their time to lead groups on path adventures. It takes time to create a walking event, from planning the route to deciding what to talk about along the way.

A beautiful day to explore north Berkeley’s Little Free Libraries, gardens, and arty sights. About 25 walkers joined us and we got to talk with several little library owners about their experiences. One even brought out homemade mini cupcakes for us (thank you, Renée!).

Our first work party of 2006 on Upper Halkin Walk. 10 volunteers did a super job in cleaning mud and leaves off the steps, and sweeping. And we even got to sweep Lower Halkin Walk, thanks to David.

We love Acacia Walk for its entertaining signs, very large new Little Free Library that includes a clock, and hanging planters along the path fence. This is a neighbor who embraces and loves the public paths! Thank you! 📷: Colleen Neff

Good news for Oxford School Way! On the left was mid-September’s closed walkway and on the right is the newly paved path today! Even though the old Oxford School has been sold, this name will stay to remind future walkers that a much-beloved elementary school was here. Thank you, City of Berkeley Public Works!

Elsa and I had a visit with Berkeley Path Wanderers co-founder Jacque Ensign, who just turned 94 years young! She’s still getting around town to various activities and heads to Echo Lake Camp every summer. Go, Jacque!!

Oxford School Way is under construction. Looks like all the concrete was removed and we’re hoping for a smoother walk in a couple weeks! As many of you know, the Oxford School property is for sale. Opened in 1909, the original Oxford School building was demolished and rebuilt in 1965. We don’t know what the site will turn into but at least we’ll have the path named for the school to remember it was here.

Work party on Northgate Path today. Only a small number of volunteers made a huge difference... And we had a couple of admirers after the work was completed. We'll come back on another day to finish up the upper section of the path...
