New arrangement published today!! 📯📯📯📯
F***y Hensel didn’t write anything for horn (besides in her very few orchestral works), which is sad because her early German Romantic style sounds really great on horn!
Fortunately Andrew Sehmann has arranged some of Hensel’s songs for horn quartet (à la the green books). The first volume is published today, and you can order it as a PDF instant download on either henselpushers.org or andrewsehmann.com (link in stories)

Today is the 200th anniversary of one of F***y Hensel’s most fun and cute piano pieces:
Westöstlicher Redaktionswalzer, or
“West-East Editorial Waltz” (H184).
What’s with the name, you ask? Yes, it’s weird, especially because Hensel rarely titled her piano compositions.
The title is explained by its context:
This waltz was “published” in the Sept. 13th, 1826 issue of the Gartenzeitung or “Garden Times,” a newspaper assembled by the Mendelssohn siblings (which in the winter was named the Schnee-und-Thee-Zeitung or “Snow and Tea Times”).
The paper featured illustrations, poetry, short essays, and witticisms from the siblings, their father, F***y and Felix’s music teacher Zelter, and other adults in the household.
The Zeitung was an example of the children’s idyllic and enriched upbringing, where they spent their time playing in the garden and creating art together.
The piece is silly and fun!

This month’s easy piano arrangement is based on the Redaktionswalzer…
It takes the idea of a simple waltz with big hand position jumps and presents it at a VERY short, VERY easy level for beginners
(and not in F # major)
You can find it on Patreon!

This month’s easy piano arrangement is based on a piano piece (H184) that Hensel composed at age 20. This piece was “published” in the September 13th, 1826 edition of the Gartenzeitung or “Garden Times,” a newspaper assembled by the Mendelssohn siblings (which in the winter was named the Schnee-und-Thee-Zeitung, or “Snow and Tea Times”). The paper featured illustrations, poetry, short essays, and witticisms from the siblings, their father, F***y and Felix’s music teacher Zelter, and other adults in the household. The Zeitung was an example of the children’s idyllic and enriched upbringing, where they played in the garden and created art.
This arrangement is simplified, shortened to 16 measures, and transposed to F major; it is appropriate for late-beginner-level pianists. It features a simple 8-bar theme, then a version of the theme with big jumps and hand crossings, inspired by those in the original piece.
