Reliable part-time weekend driver wanted for neuroscience research study.

Driver needed to assist in an NIH-sponsored research project to deliver test computers to participants undergoing at-home cognitive tests of memory, attention, and processing speed. We’re refining improved cognitive tests to identify older individuals at risk of future cognitive decline.

Salary: $30/hour + mileage reimbursement.

Tasks:
• Sterilize, deliver, and retrieve test computers from participants’ homes.
• Coordinate deliveries with research staff.
• Document delivery and retrieval.
• Pay subjects following test completion.
• Occasionally (1) execute computer programs to upload data following testing and (2) download and install improved versions of test software.
Procedures
• Test units will be stored and retrieved from offices in downtown Berkeley or at the VA Medical Center in Martinez.
• Test units will be delivered to participants’ homes in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
• Test delivery routes will be provided by research staff.
• The driver will coordinate deliveries with research participants to assure that they are at home and ready to receive the test units.
• Test unit delivery and retrieval will occur primarily on weekends with occasional weekday deliveries.
• When possible, test units will be retrieved from one participant, sterilized, and delivered directly to another participant.
• Anticipated workload: 6-15 hours per weekend grouped into one or two workdays.
• In some cases, drivers may need to store test units overnight in a secure location.

Requirements:
• Vaccinated for Covid-19.
• Spotless driving record.
• Reliable delivery vehicle.
• Secure location for storing test units when required.
• Comprehensive car insurance.
• English language fluency.
• Evidence of reliability and punctuality.
• Familiarity with computer software and the Windows operating system.

Optional but not required:
• Ability to communicate in Spanish.
• Familiarity in working with older individuals.
• Evidence of interest in brain science as reflected by junior college or university coursework in psychology, neuroscience, or related discipline.
• Plans to pursue studies in psychology or neuroscience.

Training:
• You will be trained in test-unit delivery and sterilization procedures.
• You will be trained in driving and delivery procedures by a Research Associate.
• To gain familiarity with test procedures, you will undergo six hours of cognitive testing in your home (reimbursement: $180).
