Raising awareness about Type 1 Diabetes and empowering individuals living with It.

09/30/2026

Doctors can make mistakes. And you’re allowed to ask questions.

That’s one of the biggest lessons Lynda Jimenez took away from being misdiagnosed with type 2 diabetes for seven years.

Today, she encourages people who aren't sure about their diagnosis to see an endocrinologist and ask for testing.

For Lynda, additional testing revealed that she actually had LADA, a form of type 1 diabetes.

Her experience changed the way she thinks about diabetes, insulin, stigma, and advocating for yourself in the exam room.

For seven years, Lynda Jimenez thought she had type 2 diabetes.

She thought insulin meant she had failed. She thought that if she worked hard enough, she might eventually reach a point where she wouldn’t need it anymore.

Then she learned her diagnosis was wrong.

Lynda actually had LADA—a form of type 1 diabetes that can be difficult to distinguish from type 2, especially early on.

Her story isn't just about getting the right diagnosis. It’s about the shame, stigma, expectations, and relief that can come with finally understanding what’s happening in your own body.
