Can't believe I haven't posted since November 2025. Did something happen last November? Ohhhhhhhh Yeahhhhhhhh. "So how's your next book coming along? Doing any writing?" people ask me. "Uhhh, I've been busy," I reply. I was born a Caliifornia Girl...and always will be.

BUT - now I'm back to writing (middle grade books). In addition to speaking and protesting my mind. With this post, I guess I can kiss any future red state sales goodbye...but maybe some rebel kid, somewhere, can get a Kindle copy of my first book. Or a used copy. Or borrow one from a friend.

And read about a bunch of kids running around in the redwood forest in California, guarding one of the last places on earth where magic still exists. And trees take you on time travels. And then you have to battle gnomes and draugrs. And then survive middle school.

Well, kids in California, Canada, England, Germany, Oregon, Washington and New Jersey like it.

And even...secret readers in Texas. I'll never reveal their identities.

It was a rough November, but I am finding plenty to be thankful for. Like the sun through the trees that hang over our back deck. This is what 4 o'clock in the afternoon looks like in Northern California on a normal afternoon the week of Thanksgiving. For that, and many other things, I give thanks. I wish you all know peace and plenty, and that those things come soon to the war torn places of the world that need them most

This is fun! Adrian So is a high school student in Canada. When he was in seventh and eighth grade (middle school), he wrote a book called "Groundworld Heroes." He was a fan of my book, so back then he wrote me and asked me if I'd be an advance reader for him. Then he got a publishing contract - and his book just came out August 1.

It's a great story and a fun read! If you've got kids from 4th through 7th grade, and they like stories with animal characters, they'll enjoy it. Especially boys.

So I saw this on Colbert. (it's gone viral - as it should). And I instantly thought of Harmony. The other little girl seems very much like an Olivia. (They are twins, btw. The real little English girls -- not my book characters Harmony and Olivia. They're new friends.) This is pretty much what Harmony would say at a similar age in a similar situation - only in American. But Bloody Hell! What a A Mighty Girl!

Sometimes, taking care of business is fun! I got ro meet a lot of great authors at the Bay Area Book Festival's first Family Day at Berkely's main library. The best part was...who am I kidding? Whenever somebody decided to buy my book!

Next best was meeting readers! My new cover was a big draw for 9 year olds. And adults. Good to know. I spent over an hour talking to one great 9 year old named Ivy. She bought my book with her own money after talking to me about it. Then she stopped by my table in 10 minute visits, off and on, all afternoon.

We talked books, dogs, summer vacation and general stuff. She brought her mom and big sister over to say goodbye near the end of the afternoon. One very smart, mighty girl.

Annnnnnd I got to meet a lot of great authors! A lot of good books there, from picture books to YA.

Maybe the best is yet unwritten...but there were some mighty good stories in that room.

I survived the Bay Area Book Festival Family Day! I met a lot of great authors from across California, got to see the great Art Deco main library branch on Kittredge, and met a lot of great kids. The kids wanted to talk about dogs, monsters, and trains, in that order. More TK.

Oh now THIS, I so much want to attend! But I'll be out in the market off the lobby, signing and selling my book. I'm bringing my husband to help me - maybe he can "man" the table during this talk! Hope to see lots of people tomorrow!
