A amazing selection of musical instruments and instructional material from around the world. Lark In The Morning has been selling musical instruments from around the world since 1974. Founded by Mickey Zekley , it started as a mail order company and grew to a thriving enterprise with storefronts in San Francisco, Seattle and Mendocino. Mickie and his wife Beth also started a summer music camp, Lark Camp, which now has over 600 participants and instructors from around the world each summer in the redwoods of Mendocino. Mickie and Beth first sold Lark in the Morning in 2002. By the end of 2010, when Mickie and Beth got the business back, all the stores had closed and the busines had moved entirely online. Since then, Lark in the Morning has been holding steady, offering its unique and remarkable collection of instruments to its customers worldwide. In January 2017 I purchased Lark in the Morning and have moved the business to the San Francisco Bay Area, in Berkeley. Mickie and Beth continue to run Lark Camp and work with me as consultants. It's October now and we've just opened a storefront again here in Berkeley. Bay Area folks, please stop by!

"Just what I wanted. This was my first ever Hardanger, an entry level Hardanger to learn on that was new and solid but wouldn't break the bank. This has been pretty much perfect and just what I wanted.I love playing it."

🥁 The Bombo is a cylindrical Andean drum. The drum head is stretched animal skins retaining its fur, which produces a deep muffled tone. The Bombo is played with a mallet striking the wooden rim or the drum head. Rope tension, 19" X 15" goat skin head with hair. Comes with one stick. ***Color of hair may vary from photo and length of drum may vary by a couple of inches. ***

A fun moment from Neil Nayyar's visit to the shop. is known for having mastered 130+ instruments at a young age.
Here, he plays the Aztec Death Whistle. Used in ancient Mesoamerican ritual and ceremony, this haunting instrument produces one of a uniquely startling sound. Ours are handcrafted by the amazing Nash Tavewa.

"I wish we had one here in Indiana. I'm a few minutes from Sweetwater sound, but they don't have any dulcimers and not much of any folk instruments."
Sweetwater is an incredible resource for musicians. They're an industry-leader with wonderful inventory! And Lark in the Morning is indeed more focused on world music and folk instruments.
