Of the 40M tons of plastic waste generated in the United States last year, only 2M was recycled โ thatโs only about 5-6%. This should be a wake-up call to the false promise that plastic recycling is a credible solution to plastic waste and pollution.
โก๏ธWhat can we do?
"Itโs time to implement real solutions, particularly the reduction of single-use plastic food service packaging that have the highest likelihood of polluting our environment.โ It is time to shift to reusable solutions.

Day 1:
โขWhen you order takeaway, simply ask not ๐ซ๐๏ธ to add a plastic bag if you won't be using it. If you want to go the extra mile, you can ask not to add any utensils, or other unnecessary items and bring your own reusable container.
โข Bring your own reusable bag โป๏ธ๐ when you are out and about grocery shopping, at the mall or just about anywhere.

Donโt forget your reusable cups & containers as today is the first .

There are at least 10M tonnes of plastic that ends up in our oceans ๐.
What is the solution๐ก? It is plain and simple - less pollution.
What does that look like๐๐ป?
โ๏ธ It's making an effort every day to reduce our consumption.
โ๏ธ It's investing in science that seeks innovative alternatives for a greener future.
โ๏ธ It's choosing reusable takeaway containers instead of the single-use ones (see what we did there?).
It's the small steps that count ๐.

World Ocean Day ended yesterday, but that doesn't mean the work ends there. In the next few posts โก๏ธ we'd like to highlight the current situation in the ocean and our impact โ ๏ธ.
Imagine a full truck of plastic is loaded into your backyard every day, let alone every minute ๐. Unfathomable, right? Yet, an every day reality in the ocean. So why do we let this happen to the ocean? ๐คท๐ป
78M tons of plastic packaging produced annually is left to flow into our oceans๐; the equivalent of pouring one garbage truck of plastic into the ocean every minute.

Happy World Oceans Day ๐ ...or is it really happy?

As our main source of oxygen ๐ฌ๏ธ, home to most of earth's biodiversity๐ข and key to our economy ๐๏ธ, this is why it is so important to keep our oceans plastic free and why it is every person's responsibility to protect and care for it.
