Outside Games
The Outside Games Central Oregon is truly a magical place… a great community with fantastic people. Central Oregon truly is paradise for Outdoor Games.
A place where one can mountain bike, kayak, rock climb, paddle board, ski, trail run, hike, road bike, skate and whatever else feeds their outdoor soul… all within twenty minutes of world class breweries, restaurants, shopping, live music and (for those of us lucky enough to live here) home! That’s why we created the Outside Games, a series of events throughout Central Oregon - our chance to share with each of you the Central Oregon lifestyle. The first thing you need to know about the Outside Games is that it's less about competing with the pros, and more about playing with them… learning from them… and experiencing new things like the latest equipment, hidden trails, different paths, great live music, lots of laughs and most importantly, yourself! While you’re at it, you’ll also get to enjoy the world’s best beers and great live music. It’s what we do… we want to share it with you… and when we do it together during the Outside Games, you’ll also be supporting important non-profits, great outdoor events and the Central Oregon community that makes it all possible. So this summer make a date with Central Oregon and join us in beautiful Bend for the Outside Games, a series of events throughout Central Oregon - Made possible by Subaru of Bend, Visit Bend, 10 Barrel Brewing Company, the Bend Radio Group, BackyardBend and the funemployable everywhere. Check back often to see what the next event will be!

What to Bring While Backcountry Skiing | How do you keep yourself—and your partners—safe in the backcountry? It starts with the decisions you make long before you step into your skis or splitboard, beginning with what you choose to carry in your pack. Few people understand this better than our dear friend and former guide, David Marchi. You may remember David from his years as the owner of Crow’s Feet Commons, or from the concerts he produced in the courtyard overlooking Drake Park and Mirror Pond. Beyond Central Oregon, David has spent decades guiding in Alaska and the Himalayas, and traveling the world to ski. There are few people with a deeper understanding of preparation, judgment, and risk management in the backcountry. That’s why, each year around this time, we share this video and David’s timely advice. Winter is finally here. We’re all excited to get out there and create unforgettable memories—but the backcountry carries real and serious risks. The tragic loss of our Central Oregon friends and neighbors, Terry and Renee Skjersaa, made that painfully clear last season. Please take a few minutes to watch David’s video. And keep David and his family in your thoughts. They are facing a battle for which there is no preparation. They need your support, compassion, and prayers.
