Building Community. Sharing Food. One GREEN bag at a time. Welcome to the Bend Food Project! Neighbors donate a bag of non-perishable food every two months.

The Bend Food Project is a revolutionary way to collect food: It's a donor drive, not a food drive. Instead of asking for one-time contributions of food, our volunteers (Neighborhood Coordinators) enlist their neighbors to become long-term Food Donors. It's incredibly easy, because we supply the bag…and we pick up the food! This provides The Giving Plate with a year-round supply of food…and provid

Bend Food Project turns 10! πŸŽ‰As always, last weekend's collection was a blast, and it was extra special to celebrate our anniversary alongside all of you. Thank you for 10 years of sharing food and building community with us! πŸ’š

It's hard to believe a decade has gone by since Larry and Sue first brought the magic of this movement to Bend, but you know what they say... time flies when you're having fun! And for us, that's an understatement. We are so grateful for your help in building BFP to what it is today. To our founders, donors, Neighborhood Coordinators, collection day volunteers, and every person who has rallied around our mission in any way- THANK YOU. Your generosity and compassion for our Central Oregon neighbors in need has made an incredible, lasting difference. ✨

Last Saturday was the first of our two October collections, where our amazing neighbors donated 23,698 pounds of food! We're looking forward to another successful collection tomorrow and can't wait to see you all there. 😊

Cheers to 10 years and the outstanding Bend Food Project family! πŸ₯‚

We want to say a huge thank you to Aperion Management Group and their incredible HOA communities! Aperion staff and residents came together last month to collect food for Bend Food Project, and the generosity warmed our hearts. They collected an impressive total of 401 pounds of food!

These donations are helping families right here in Central Oregon, and we are so grateful to Aperion and their communities for rallying behind our mission. Thank you for standing with us to fight hunger and feed hope. πŸ’š

How does Bend Food Project work with The Giving Plate to feed our neighbors in need? Here's how it works πŸ‘‡

It all starts with the generous donors of Bend Food Project, who fill up their Green Bags with food. On bimonthly collection days, our wonderful Neighborhood Coordinators pick up the filled bags and bring them to The Giving Plate’s Distribution Center.

Once the food arrives, it’s carefully sorted, crated, and taken to The Giving Plate's Community Store, where the shelves are beautifully and routinely stocked.

Finally, neighbors from all around Central Oregon come to shop the shelves, taking home food to nourish their families. Every step β€” from donation to delivery to shopping β€” is part of a cycle of generosity that keeps our community fed and cared for. πŸ’š

Thank you for giving your time and hearts to this incredible journey of turning food into hope!

Across July & August, Bend Food Project collected 46,091 pounds of food, providing 36,873 meals for our neighbors in need! πŸ’š

We’re especially excited to share that our totals continue to grow compared to last year, showing the lasting impact of this community’s generosity. Every bag filled is hope shared, and together, we’re making a lasting difference.

Thank you all for helping us keep this amazing momentum. We are so grateful for your commitment to fighting hunger in Central Oregon!

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Amy!

Amy has worn just about every hat at Bend Food Project. From being a donor and backup Neighborhood Coordinator, to helping out in the warehouse, and even introducing BFP to her Hydro Flask team (where it became a fun and successful department challenge!), she's always ready to jump in wherever help is needed.

She first got involved after moving to Bend in 2016, making BFP the very first nonprofit she connected with in Central Oregon. The mission, the model that makes giving easy, and the incredible volunteers she gets to serve alongside keep her inspired. As Amy puts it, Bend Food Project is "a win-win for the community!" πŸ’š

Fun fact: Amy is one of eight kids, was raised in a family that deeply valued community, and she recently got married (congratulations, Amy!). Her brother Mike also jumped right into volunteering with BFP when he moved to Bend a few months ago. The heart to give back truly runs in the family!

We’re so grateful for Amy’s infectious positivity, dedication, and the many ways she helps us feed hope in Bend. 🌟

Thank you for making our August collections fun and successful! πŸ’š

On Saturday the 8th, our amazing neighbors donated 23,276 pounds of food, and on Saturday the 16th, another 19,444 pounds rolled in! That’s over 42,000 pounds heading straight into our hunger-relief programs at The Giving Plate.

Stay tuned for the Green Bag Report, which we'll be sharing soon after a few remaining bags trickle in!

Every collection brings us closer to our big goal of reaching 2 million pounds collected by the end of 2025, and with your continued generosity, we know we can get there. πŸ‘

Thank you to every donor, neighborhood coordinator, and volunteer who gives their time and heart to make these collections successful. We’re so grateful you choose to spend these special Saturdays with us, fighting hunger and feeding hope! πŸ’š
