Rock Solid Insights: Expansive Soil 04/28/2026

Have you ever seen soil act like a sponge? Expansive soil swells when wet and shrinks when dry, which can cause structural damage. Learn more about this in today's Rock Solid Insights post:

Rock Solid Insights: Expansive Soil Central Oregon isn’t all solid rock. In areas around Prineville, expansive soil—and even certain types of bedrock—can react dramatically to seasonal moisture changes. As the ground absorbs water, it swells; when it dries out, it shrinks. This constant movement can put serious stress on your bu...

This past week, Adam Larson (Wallace Group geotechnical engineer and project manager) attended the grand opening of the Goodwill Bend North store. We have been honored to perform the geotechnical engineering and materials testing for this distinctive project. Given the site’s unique geologic history and site constraints the project required aggregate piers, deep sections of structural fill, soil nail walls, and large retaining walls. Wallace Group technicians and engineers congratulate Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette and Pence Construction on their successful completion!
