When I shared yesterday about having anticipatory grief about Boomer since his terminal cancer diagnosis, I got an overwhelming number messages of support, love and shared experiences, I felt so seen and really appreciated it so much 🥹

But I also got a message from an older woman, a grandmother, reminding me that they are JUST DOGS and to message her once I had a “child/baby”. Mind you, this is the first time she has ever messaged me.

Since when did it become ok to message strangers about something so deeply personal, to know nothing about that aspect of their life but feel the need to voice an opinion? It made me realize that she has likely never experienced the type of love you can have for a dog that so many of us have. Dogs are family, they are never “JUST DOGS”.

I’m not sure what our family will look like in the future, but for now, it’s perfect the way it is and I hope this helps someone else feel like your family is complete even if you don’t have human children, or even if you don’t have dogs because families can come in all shapes and sizes ❤️
