What's with Japan and its endless powder?!? This is not far from Cortina in Hakuba...

A few feet downstream of this photo, the almost undreamable color of Havasu Creek disappears forever into the muddy brown Colorado River….

Oddly, but not oddly enough, one of the biggest takeaways from this 2-week Grand Canyon trip: having no cell coverage is one of the healthiest things a person can do for their soul. Along these lines, the most pertinent documentary I’ve seen and have recently watched 3 times with my son, is The Social Dilemma (Netflix.) If you haven’t seen it, you absolutely need to.

Which is true?
A) This was shot from the beach with a 5000mm lens, the size of my camper van.
B) This was shot while sitting on the back of a boat with a 70-200mm.

This photo feels timeless to me. I could have shot it 50 years ago or 50 years in the future. 💚 Brazil

Some of my most rewarding moments in photography have been the gathering of years of experience and education on the subject, then simply shooting blindly. This is often the case with surf and water photography: some skill, combined with a lot of luck.

A warming Antarctica in all her glory. I can’t help but think there will be trees growing in Antarctica in 500-1000 years….

What do you do when you’re crossing the Drake Passage in a storm (think 25’ swell, 60 knot winds and sideways rain), on the way to Antarctica, and the captain of your ship makes a public announcement to NOT go outside? Uhhhh… you go outside of course, then climb the crow’s nest to drink in the storm and very much feel your vitality here on Earth!

Part curious, part cautious, completely adorable. Skiing and just hanging out near hundreds of penguins will always be etched into my mind. I know better, but the ridiculous human in me sure wanted to pet them. 👀
