In the 1840’s, W.D. Budd operated in Dutchess Junction, marking their bricks with BUDD, which still pave walkways throughout the Hudson Valley.

During the 19th century, Aldridge Brick Company located in Dutchess Junction, created bricks marked with “ABC”, though the exact relationship remains unclear.

Alphabet City, nestled in the East Village within Manhattan, New York City, gets its name from the unique Avenues A, B, C, and D. Notably, these are the only avenues in Manhattan distinguished by single-letter names. This design is a parody on the iconic children’s television series Sesame Street, which has strong ties to the alphabet.
