The first is thinking it is probably too far gone to be worth anything.

Let our technicians be the judge of that. Machines people assume are finished often need one part, a wipe, and an afternoon. Whatever genuinely cannot be saved gets recycled responsibly and stays out of the landfill.

The second is knowing your files are still on it.

That is the right instinct, honestly. Every drive that comes to us is securely erased using certified methods. We are an R2 certified recycler, which means that process is audited by people who do not work for us.

So there is no version of this where bringing it in turns out to be the wrong call.

You should not have to. That is the honest answer.

Trust is what you fall back on when there is nothing to verify. We would rather hand you something you can verify.

We are an R2 certified recycler. That standard is audited by people who do not work for us, which means our process gets checked whether it is convenient for us or not.

What that looks like in practice:

• Every device is inventoried on arrival
• Drives are destroyed or sanitized using certified methods
• Hardware is tested before anything else happens to it
• You receive documentation, not assurances

Then there is the part a lot of vendors never reach.

For most recyclers, destruction is the end of the job. For us it is where the useful work starts. Anything that can be saved is refurbished and goes back out to students, families, and people facing barriers to technology across Louisiana.

CACRC pays its own way by refurbishing and selling technology. So every computer we give away is one we chose not to sell.

We can say yes as often as our support allows. No more often than that.

🏠💻 The Cajun Clickers Computer Club have a new home at CACRC!

We are so happy to announce that the Cajun Clickers Computer Club will be moving into our community computer lab to host their weekly operations. When they reached out about partnering with us, this was an easy decision.

Since 1989, the Cajun Clickers have been “Sharing the Knowledge” and helping people become more confident with technology. We are so thankful and excited to welcome them into our new Community Computer Lab at CACRC.

It means a lot to be able to give back to an organization that has supported CACRC and our community for so many years.

Seventy organizations. Almost nothing in common.

A school and a reentry program do not run the same way. Neither do a women's shelter and a college, or a literacy class and a youth center.

Most of us have one. A drawer, a closet, the top shelf in the garage.

It still turns on. Probably. You just stopped using it three phones ago.

We wipe it securely. Our technicians test it, repair what needs repairing, and set it up properly. Then it goes to someone who has been getting by without one.

If it cannot be saved, we recycle it responsibly and keep it out of the landfill.
