House Members took the floor with heavy hearts amid the tragedy that occurred in Shreveport on Sunday.

Our hearts are heavy for Shreveport. Eight innocent children lost in a tragedy that words cannot begin to explain. This is beyond heartbreaking. Lives full of promise and joy were taken far too soon, leaving an entire community in grief. We stand with every family and every life affected by this unimaginable loss.

A portion of Highway 173 in Shreveport is one step closer to bearing the name of a local icon who served in the Civil Rights Movement as a pioneer for change. It is on its way to being named for Dr. Harry Blake, Pastor Emeritus of the historic Mount Canaan Baptist Church of Shreveport.
