Today's Rotary Club of Baton Rouge meeting included several meaningful moments for our club and community. We were pleased to welcome Riley Landry as our newest Rotary Club of Baton Rouge member. The Rotary Club of Baton Rouge Foundation also presented a $5,000 grant to Maddie's Footprints, supporting its mission of serving families experiencing infant loss.

Our featured speaker was Brian Trascher, National Vice President of the United Cajun Navy, who shared an overview of the organization's history, mission, and disaster response capabilities. Founded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the United Cajun Navy provides volunteer-led support during disasters, utilizing boats, drones, seaplanes, off-road vehicles, and communications technology to assist communities when traditional response resources are stretched.

Trascher also discussed the organization's responses to major disasters, including Hurricanes Harvey, Laura, and Helene, its partnerships with meteorologists and researchers to collect storm data, and its year-round community outreach efforts.

Thank you to Brian for joining us and providing insight into the important work of the United Cajun Navy and the role volunteers play in disaster response and recovery.
