Rain or shine- we let the good times boil!

At our spring crawfish boil we celebrated Jacob and Ryan for their accomplishments. Congrats to Jacob for passing his ARE exams and to Ryan for 10 whole years here at TAS!! 🎉

Congratulations to Jacob Salm for completing and passing all of his ARE exams!

We are very excited to see what his future holds and are so proud of his hard work and dedication. 👏

Last Friday, we visited Louisiana’s Old State Capitol to view the Louisiana Purchase agreement. Signed by Napoleon Bonaparte, the document is a reminder of our French heritage and culture.

We were excited to view the other exhibits currently on display, and while we were at it, gave a go at looking the part. Out of the three, who are you voting for?

Danielle, just by being who she is, humbly demonstrates the awe-inspiring efforts to create a place for women, and mothers, in the field of architecture.

After 4 years of being a partner, she has continued to push boundaries while being a great role model to her own children as well as the employees. (The girls in the office often joke that Danielle is their work father figure.)

We had her answer some questions, so you can understand a little better why she chose architecture.

1. What motivates you to practice architecture?
I enjoy on a deep level, taking a complex puzzle of spatial needs, codes, materials and forms and distilling that into spaces that feel intentional, calm, and beautiful. When I experience the world, things that don’t line up or feel haphazard tend to frustrate me. So, I am always seeking those simple solutions that just feel right and effortless, to allow the brain to relax and experience the beauty of the space. I want to bring that type of clarity and purpose to every building I design.

2. What do you think is most beautiful about the field of architecture?
Architecture has the unique ability to affect the experiences and emotions of users through time and space; users the architect will likely never encounter, having experiences we will never know. I find this fascinating and beautiful in so many ways. And if we do our jobs well, even modest, simple spaces can impact others in profound ways.

3. How can female representation in architecture benefit communities?
In some ways, at least in my experience, female architects tend to be more in-tune with subtle architectural qualities, like comfort and ease of use. Since women have different lived experiences of space, we can only bring a wider, more varied set of values and understanding to the design process. As in any male-dominated profession, bringing women into the mix increases the diversity of ideas and alternatives, ultimately allowing for better outcomes. And of course, representation matters. When girls see me succeeding in this field, it says this is not only something they can do too but something they can excel at!

Last Thursday, we attended the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Morningside at Gerstner in Lake Charles, LA.

Last Friday we had a Team Bonding event at Court to Table where we strengthened our teamwork while having a good time!

Check out Signature Aviation in the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (BTR), completed in 2009.
