Is your shot clock ticking down till Wednesday?
For a lot of people, that buzz is just part of the fun — a few bucks, a little something riding on the first game to make it interesting.
But if the number in your head has been creeping up... if part of you is already planning how you'll make it all back over these last few games... you might know that feeling better than you'd like to.
You're not the only one who's been there. Plenty of us spent nights exactly like the one coming up doing quiet math we didn't want to admit to anyone.
Here's the thing: there's a room full of people who get it, no questions asked. You can walk in, say nothing, and just listen.
If Wednesday evening already has a plan attached to it, here's another kind of room you can sit in — tonight, tomorrow, or Wednesday itself:
Mon — 7:00 PM, South Baton Rouge Church of Christ, 8725 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge
Tue — 7:00 PM, Broadmoor Baptist Church, 9755 Goodwood Blvd, Baton Rouge
Wed — 6:30 PM, Grace Baptist Church, 630 Richland Ave, Baton Rouge
However the week goes, you're welcome. 💚

The games are getting louder.

The series tighten. The lines move. The notifications start coming in faster, and the group chats don't quiet down until well past midnight. For most folks, it's just a fun stretch of the spring.

For some of us, it's the stretch that gets away from us.

If something in you already knows tonight is going to be a problem — or tomorrow, or this weekend — you don't have to wait it out alone.

Everyone's got a horse this weekend.

Coworkers passing around phones. Cousins texting picks. The bartender pulling for the long shot. Even people who never bet are putting "just $20" on something with a name they like.

For most of them, it'll be a story they tell on Monday — win or lose — and then it's over.

But maybe this isn't the only "$20" you've put down this month. Maybe it hasn't been just $20 in a long time. Maybe the rush of having something riding on the outcome is the part you keep chasing — and when the race ends, you're already looking for the next one.

If that sounds familiar, you're not the first person to feel it. There are folks all over Baton Rouge who've sat exactly where you're sitting and found their way to something steadier.

You don't have to talk. You don't have to introduce yourself. You can come and just listen.

Today — Friday, 12:00 PM
Blackwater Methodist Church
10000 Blackwater Rd, Baker, LA 70818
(Meeting room behind the church)

Tomorrow — Saturday, 10:00 AM
Luke 10:27 Church
536 Centerville St NE, Denham Springs, LA 70726
(Second building on the left, up the wheelchair ramp in back)

There’s a certain energy in the air this time of year—brackets filling up, underdogs rising, and the thrill of “just one more chance.” For many, it’s all in good fun. But for others, that same feeling can quietly spiral into something heavier.

If you’ve found yourself chasing that next win, refreshing scores a little too often, or feeling the pressure build with every close call… you’re not alone. And you don’t have to sit with that feeling by yourself.

There’s a place where the noise quiets down and real conversations begin. A place where people understand what it’s like to get caught up in the action—and how to find a way out of it.

You can join us today:

🏀 Tuesday at 7:00 PM
Broadmoor Baptist Church
9755 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge

Or find another time that works for you. There’s always a seat open.

Sometimes the strongest move isn’t doubling down—it’s stepping back.

This week, two of our nine weekly meetings have something special to celebrate.

Members from those meetings are marking a combined 90 years off the bet.

That number is inspiring, but recovery does not happen all at once. Every one of those years began the same way, one day at a time. One decision not to place the next bet. Then another day. Then another.

If you are struggling right now, remember that you do not have to solve the rest of your life today. Just focus on today. Don’t place that first bet.

Whether you have decades off the bet or you are trying to get through your first day, there is always a chair waiting for you.

One day at a time.
