HOME REMEDIATION AFTER HURRICANE IDA

👉BE PROACTIVE FOR COMPENSATION
• Create an insurance claim & receive a claim number
• Take pictures of your home & damaged belongings
👉TAKE CAUTION
• Turn off electricity & gas at the main panel breaker / valve
• Look around for wild animals or other hazards
👉CLEAN & SECURE
• Remove protruding objects & clean debris
• Secure exterior openings:
• Tarp exposed roof sheathing
• Board & cover windows / exposed areas
👉REMEDIATE WATER
• Remove drywall & insulation approximately 1-2 feet past the point of damage
• Look in roof & wall cavities for additional water exposure
• Do not close damaged spaces back at this point
• Run fans & dehumidifiers in home & attic cavity
• Open doors maximizing circulation
• If no wind or water damages were sustained to electrical or HVAC systems, & power is restored, run your air conditioner to help air flow.
• Spray / remediate mold & mildew - dry fully
👉REBUILD
• Do not permanently close any wall or ceiling cavities until your insurance inspection has occurred
• Make sure all hired contractors are licensed & insured- if possible, ask for references of past work
