Part One of our Collaborative Writing Series is here. We initiated this facet of JE in 2018. Pt. 1, includes essays by Ashley Callahan and Luiza deCamargo. Pt.2 (to publish in March) includes interviews with the V5 artists conducted by Ashley and Luiza.
In 2018, Ashely Callahan and Luiza deCamargo were invited to join Jewelry Edition Volume 5 as collaborative writers. They took part in group conversations and conducted candid interviews between 2018 and 2020. What started as a straightforward idea to publish artist interviews with written essays about contemporary jewelry evolved into a documentation of how eight jewelry artists across America attempted to maintain creative lives during a global pandemic and growing social awareness.
We asked Ashley to direct her research and writing on the historical development of our field while Luiza’s prompt was to focus on current issues and concerns. We acknowledge that no one article or perspective can grasp the totality of recent events.
