In response to recent events and with strong community support, we are announcing the opening of a Disaster Recovery Center in the Georges Creek area. This vital effort is supported by the Maryland Department of Emergency Management (MDEM) and will be managed by the Allegany County Department of Social Services, whose dedicated team continues to step up in support of our community.⁣

The Disaster Recovery Center will serve as the central hub for connecting residents and municipalities to critical services and support. As the official outlet supported by Allegany County and MDEM, this centralized approach is essential to prevent duplication, confusion, and inefficiencies during this time of urgent need.⁣

𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧⁣
A seasoned donations coordinator from MDEM will work alongside our local lead, Samantha, who has done an incredible job managing the community response.⁣

All donations and requests should go through these coordinators to ensure efficient collection, organization, storage, and distribution of resources.⁣

𝐎𝐧-𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬⁣
The Allegany County Department of Social Services will assist with:⁣
SNAP benefits replacement⁣
Access to clothing closets⁣
Child welfare services⁣
Replacement of birth certificates⁣
MVA connections⁣
Transportation vouchers⁣
And more⁣

𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 & 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬⁣
Mental health and emotional care services will also be provided to help individuals and families process the traumatic effects of the disaster.⁣

𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭⁣
We’re proud to welcome the American Red Cross to the center. Their team will be on-site handing out Clean Up kits. ⁣

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧⁣
On-site support from MIA is expected within a few days to assist residents with navigating claims.⁣

The Disaster Recovery Center will be open daily for at least 7 days, alternating between Lonaconing and Westernport, beginning Saturday.⁣

Exact locations, hours of operation, and detailed resource lists will be announced tomorrow after final coordination with partners.⁣

We extend our deep thanks to Governor Moore’s team for their direct engagement. The Governor visited the impacted area today and officially declared a State of Emergency. While this declaration is a critical milestone, we want residents to know that state-level support has been active and responsive since yesterday, and we are grateful for the consistent communication and assistance from the Governor’s Office and state agencies.⁣

Road crews have made significant progress today. Reopened or passable roads include:⁣

At 9:30 PM County Officials have authorized the temporary turn on of water lines from Frostburg feeding the Coney area.

Dumpsters are located throughout Georges Creek and Ellerslie for disposal of household debris like furniture, drywall, and appliances.⁣
