The day I told the world I’m autistic | Autism Speaks 03/25/2022

Meet Kerry: "I was diagnosed with autism at four years old. And when I was younger, when my parents would tell me I was autistic, I would have no idea what that meant or how that affected me. I only knew one thing – I was not artistic.
My parents didn't have an instruction guide to autism as there were minimal resources at the time in our local area. They never gave up research though to help me thrive, reach developmental milestones and in doing so became my greatest advocates.
I didn't speak until I was 2 1/2 since I started speaking in complete sentences till I was seven. I had 15 years of occupational, physical,l speech therapy. I got started on music and theater therapy a little bit later on to help too because I was a big theater nerd. I wanted to be the sixth member of the Backstreet Boys growing up and the next Larry Bird. So my two laser focus key interests, were theater and basketball. And I turned it into a career in public speaking that I'm still doing to this day to educate the world on autism and inclusion.”

The day I told the world I’m autistic | Autism Speaks "Before college, I had only told a few people that I was on the spectrum. This was mainly because when I was younger, when my parents would tell me I was autistic, I would have no idea what that meant or how that affected me. I only knew one thing – I was not artistic."

Meet Messiah: "I was told that he would never live on his own, that he wouldn’t be able to speak, that he wouldn’t be able to understand me verbally.
I was told that his would hold him back academically
That his would cause him to be isolated
That his diagnosis would cause him to be institutionalized
But he stands here as a testimony of what GOD can do!
This year Messiah will graduate high school with HONORS!
This year Messiah will move into his own HOUSE!!!
This year God did just what he promised me when I first got the diagnosis, he promised me that Messiah would be COVERED and KEPT!"
