Women in Construction - May 26, 2026
We are thankful to our women in construction who joined us Tuesday evening for a night of mock interviews and a meditation workshop. We hope both workshops brought you some comfort in being kind to yourself and provided a confidence boost in speaking about yourself.
Griffith Company, PCL Construction, Highlight Electric, and G&F Concrete Cutting; thank you for assisting with the mock interviews. This was an invaluable experience for everyone in attendance.
Thank you to all our contractors and vendors who support our Women in Construction events quarterly! Your presence is necessary and does not go unseen.
We had special guests: Justin Kanter, Senior Superintendent at PCL Construction, and Shelly Irvine, CFO of Metro Builders, who joined us to share how their companies have embraced diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Congratulations to our raffle winners who won a trip to the TWBN 2026 conference in Houston, TX! This raffle was made possible by our ERICA grant. 🎉✈️
Mark your calendars for our next WIC night on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness gave us the freedoms and opportunities we have today.
At Laborers Training School, we carry that same spirit of hard work, unity, and service into everything we do. Every apprentice, instructor, and laborer represents the strength that helps build our communities and shape a better future.
Today, we remember the fallen, support their families, and give thanks to all who have served. 🇺🇸
From our LTS family to yours, we wish you a safe Memorial Day.

During Construction Safety Week 2026, we are reminded that safety is more than a priority; it is a responsibility we all share every day.
This year’s theme challenged us to:
✔️ Recognize hazards before incidents happen
✔️ Respond by building safety into every plan and adapting as conditions change
✔️ Respect every voice on the jobsite and empower one
another to speak up
This week also highlighted the importance of the National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction. This voluntary initiative, led by OSHA, NIOSH, and safety partners, encourages employers to pause work, discuss fall hazards, provide training, and strengthen jobsite safety culture to help prevent injuries and fatalities.
From stand-downs to daily safety conversations, this week underscored the importance of staying alert, watching out for one another, and ensuring everyone goes home safely.
Thank you to all the workers, instructors, contractors, and safety professionals who continue to make safety a daily commitment, not just during Construction Safety Week, but every day on every jobsite.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, take a moment to reflect on what a “good day” looks like for you.
A good day doesn’t always have to mean being happy or productive. Sometimes it means feeling calm, getting through the day, finding peace, or simply taking things one step at a time. What defines a good day is personal, and it can change over time.
No matter how you may be feeling today, remember: more good days are possible, support is available, and you are never alone.
If you or someone you know is in crisis or needs immediate support, help is available 24/7.

Day 5 of National Apprenticeship Week
Yesterday, we were proud to co-host the Educators Build California Summit, an “Educate the Educator” experience designed to introduce teachers, school leaders, and community partners to career pathways in the building trades.
Hosted at our training center in partnership with the Associated General Contractors of California (AGC-CA) and Build California, this event is all about showcasing the various trades, their training programs, wages, and benefits. From training center tours and live demonstrations to real conversations with industry professionals, educators are getting a firsthand look at the wide range of opportunities available in construction.
By empowering educators with real-world insight, we’re helping them guide the next generation toward rewarding, in-demand careers that don’t always require a traditional four-year college path.
