Rev. Russell Reflection -

The show Ted Lasso had a powerful moment on its latest episode where the assistant coach, Alice, was overcome with emotion. When Ted entered the room and saw her crying, he didn’t try to console her or give her advice or ask her to stop. He sat next to her and repeated slow, deep breaths. This practice is called co-regulation.

We don’t need our friends or colleagues to give us unwarranted advice or try to pull us out of our mess. We often need someone to sit with us in our mess until we’re ready to move forward ourselves.

Every, single person is dealing with their own pain and problems. We are all on different, diverse journeys. How can we be better at respecting and affirming one another while also giving each other space to work out our own messy journeys?

We’ll be concluding our series on Artificial Intelligence, Postmodern Theology, and Authentic Faith discussing “Affirmessy Journeys” this Sunday at 11am. Catch up on the previous sermons in this series on our podcast, Azle Christian Church. Come celebrate every person’s sacred worth with us.

ACC Young Disciples

This proposition is to combine Becky’s kids Bible study with my youth group. We would meet together every Sunday at 10 am as ACC Young Disciples (ages 5-17). The older kids (ages 12-17) would be considered “mentors” (for all who are willing) to the younger kids and would help with lessons, crafts, snacks, etc. This would help further instill the ideal that every disciple is both student and teacher no matter the age. We would also include all of these ages in all of our monthly events. What I hope this transition will accomplish are the following:

1. Create a sense of identity.
2. Build stronger connections and relationships.
3. Have larger groups for kids on Sunday mornings so they are not so isolated from each other.
4. Create momentum for growth. (If we grow large enough we could go back to having separate groups for younger kids and youth).
5. Have more fun. We are better together.

Our mission statement would be this: “To inspire and encourage spiritual growth and life skills in the lives of our young disciples that both they and the church will have a bright future.”

We are excited about kicking this off Sunday and explaining more details to everyone! Families of young disciples are encouraged to join us at Cidercade after worship!

Peace and joy,
Joey Garcia
