Networking in Dallas Fort Worth for Healthcare Professionals | Brummitt Group 09/25/2023

PSA: It's too late to start networking once you need a job or have a new product to sale. Yep, you heard us correctly. Okay, maybe it's slightly facetious, but read on to understand.

We get messages all the time from people searching for a job or selling a product that are looking for connections. They've been chilling in their stable job for the last 2, 5, 10, 15 years and haven't been networking. It's waaaaaay easier to build relationships when you don't need something.

Start networking now. Work the room and meet everyone there with no intention of anything other than building a relationship. Volunteer in organizations to build organic relationships. Then, when you do need something a few years down the road, those relationships are already in place. And, you've likely benefited the community, so it's okay to ask for something back.

If you happen to work in healthcare in the Dallas Fort Worth area, you are very lucky when it comes to networking opportunities. There are literally more networking groups than you will have time to attend! The list below is just healthcare-focused groups. There are so many more that aren't healthcare focused like Chamber of Commerce than can provide a lot value. Pick a few and get started today.

Networking in Dallas Fort Worth for Healthcare Professionals | Brummitt Group Dallas Fort Worth offers many networking opportunities for healthcare professionals including ACHE, DFWHC, MGMA, and DFWBGH.

We hear all the time that people want to create a spa-like experience for patients, especially in infusion centers. Here is a list of tangible items of how to create that experience (smells, lighting, service). And maybe more important, a list of what not to do (signage, loud tv)!

If you aren't sure how it's working in your center, message us. We'd love to virtually or in-person check out your center and give you honest feedback!

Curate a patient experience worth talking about.

Look through your patient lens and see how it feels to be a patient in your practice. Call your practice as a prospective patient and see how long it takes to get an appointment. Be needy. Ask questions to see if your staff is friendly and patient. Leave a message (under another name/number) and see how long it takes to get a call back. Sit in your lobby to observe. When a patient walks in, does someone look up and smile at them? Does your team make them feel welcome? If not, train your team to create a patient experience more like a spa and less like a medical office.

Listen to your patient reviews. Look for trends and identify actionable areas for improvement.

One vital part of happy patients is a happy team. Build a culture that allows your team to love their jobs. Choose software, processes, and systems that set your team up for success so they can put their energy and brainpower into safely caring for patients.

04/21/2023

Build a social media presence that is heavy on education and light on selling your practice.

No one wants to be “sold to.” So, create social media that gives people a reason to follow you. Share information to make their lives better. What is the problem that our customer has and how can we solve it? Every post should be from the perspective of the customer – a physician or a patient.

Don’t push the same content on the same day to every platform. Spread it out and mix it up so people that follow you on multiple platforms retain interest.

While there is overlap on each platform between potential patients and potential referrers, segmenting platforms for audiences works well. Or just be okay with the overlap and keep both audiences in mind when posting.

Consider using Linked for physician-facing information since it is a platform geared more towards professionals. Everything you post would be about fixing their pain points – quick access for patients, pre-authorizations handled by your practice, order forms available online, no hassles, excellent clinical outcomes, customized care to their needs, and anything else that they want.

Possibly use Facebook for patient-facing information. Easy parking, easy access, after-hours appointments, early morning appointments, cozy space, fast Wifi, friendly team, reasonable prices, and gentle nurses. Include lots of patient education here – preparing for a visit, what to expect, information on diseases, support groups, disease specific organizations, etc. Include pictures of the facility and staff so that patients start to build a familiarity with the practice. Helping them see you as people makes it less daunting to visit the practice.

Have fun with it and showcase your team! Do an Ask the Nurse or Ask the Doctor series answering common questions. These could be videos (which perform better than images or text) or images with text. Keep it informational and you will grow an audience of engaged followers.

04/12/2023

Is your website a resource for patients and referring physicians?

Think about your site through the lens of your two customers – patients and referring physicians. Segment these in the main navigation. What do they want to know? What problem do they have and how can you fix it?

For patients, include resources for disease specific organizations that provide patient education. Build educational content around your speciality, conditions you treat, and specific treatments for search engine optimization. Write about the questions that patients repeatedly ask because that is what they are searching online. Include information on what to expect when visiting your office.

For physicians, have easily accessible order forms, an updated list of insurances accepted, and anything that will help them make a referral. Remember to look at it all through their lens. What do they care about? Clinical accuracy, efficiency, reasonable pricing, and happy patients.

04/06/2023

Who is the right person for your physician outreach and what should their pitch be?

Select someone that knows your market, potential referring doctors, and/or the your speciality. Can a clinician work? Absolutely. This should be a high accountability position with sales and retention quotas, so they are incentivized to both develop and nurture relationships with referring offices. In the beginning before you are busy, schedule your physicians or office manager to join your salesperson on physician visits. Those clinician-to-clinician interactions are priceless.

Develop a value proposition for the sales pitch that aligns with the needs of referring physicians. Why should they pick your practice? What do you do better than the competition? How do you improve patient outcomes more efficiently or with greater care? The pitch should be about the needs of patients and referring physicians, not just selling your services.

Speaking of competition, research them so you know their strengths and weaknesses. Never mention them during a pitch but make their weaknesses your strengths. Does it take a long time to get an appointment? Then, make your appointment slots easier to access. If they don’t offer pre-authorizations, talk about how do. Are they expensive? Talk about the reasonableness of your pricing.

03/31/2023

Looking to grow your practice this year? Physician outreach should be on your list of strategies. You need a proactive door to door outreach strategy to get the word out that your practice is serving patients.

Start by defining your target physicians. Build a list of physicians within 3 to 5 miles of your practice. Accurate names, specialties, addresses, phone numbers, and any affiliations saves a ton of time later. Building your own list is the most effective, as purchased lists often lack accuracy. Aim to have at least 50 physicians on your initial target list and expand specialties or geography, if needed.

A Consultant’s Approach to Improving Patient Experience - MarketScale 01/19/2023

What is our favorite topic?? Patient Experience, of course!

Dr. Kevin Stevenson, FACHE and our own Amanda Brummitt, FACHE discuss:
-Creating the expectation for great customer service from the top down in an organization
-Generating a new organizational culture to redefine the patient experience
-How the right script can transform customer service and patient satisfaction

They also talk about it as a business strategy. “Being good to our patients is vital,” Amanda said. “I think it’s easier keeping existing patients happy than it is to acquire new patients.”

Can a brand safely use emojis to convey tone or make messages fun?

I thought so. And, I've been cautiously using emojis with brands I represent for years. They are fun, help to set the tone, and are visually appealing to break up space.

For instance, in an article about nutrition, I've often used broccoli and water drops for bullet points. Or, in a patient-facing podiatry post, using a foot or shoe. Or, a baseball for a sports medicine post. I don't use them often enough to have official guidelines and just use discretion and use them sparingly.

Well, I've been working on Brand Guidelines for a professional association that will be utilizing volunteers to post on Insta, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. So, I dove in deeper than normal with details on these guidelines. And, I decided to include a list of emojis to exclude. As a geriatric millennial, I understand that I shouldn't use an eggplant or a peach. But, because of my "advanced" age, I was planning to first research online and then consult my young adult children on emojis I should avoid.

Friends, I didn't even make it to the second step. Google was enough. Emojis are all dirty now. I rapidly started making a list of emojis not to use - eggplant, peach, corn, hot dog, taco, cherries, noodles, red pepper, this face 🥴, this face 🥵, this face 😈, this face 🤤, dump truck, peace sign, brain, okay hand signal, pointed finger, big eyes, tongue, water droplets, leaves, and hammer. And, I quickly decided to give up as it became abundantly clear that it is a risky move to use an emoji.

So, bottom line: a basic smiley face is probably fine. A thumbs up or high five is likely fine, although the internet says that a thumbs up is passive aggressive. I disagree. Oh, and a laughing so hard that I'm crying emoji is safe, but apparently considered uncool by the hip.
