Does anyone know if everything is ok with the farmers/the company? We have been CSA subscribers for 2 years but can’t get a hold of anyone and are just wondering if there is a plan to continue or, if not, if there is a plan to refund the pre-purchased subscriptions? Hope all is well.
What's going on. You went on hiatus about a month ago, and last week sent me a notice that you were starting up again. No one came. When you went on hiatus, I had 3 boxes left, now my balance is 0 instead of the 100-ish it should be.
Stop sending out automated emails for CSA pickups if you no longer exist! This is a ridiculous way to treat your customers.
Does anyone know what is happening at the farm? We did not receive our CSA delivery last week and my calls/emails have gone unanswered.
Hey Brenton Johnson, your loyal customers have supported your efforts for years. It's time for you to be transparent with what is going on. I for one just renewed my annual CSA subscription in mid-July just before things went dark (to the tune of $841.75) - must I kiss that $ goodbye. You need to make an honest public statement now. It is only fair.
F**k this company. We stuck with them through the freeze, we stuck with them when they consistently forgot our boxes and this is how they treat their customers?? They owe us 12+ weeks of prepaid produce. We want our money back, families can’t afford this.
RIP JBG
Johnson's Backyard Garden has gone rogue. Emails are bouncing. Voicemail is full and their social media has gone silent. On July 30th they announced a planned one-month pause on the CSA Program. A pickup reminder was sent to me for an Aug. 28th pickup at Downtown Buda Market. JBG was a no-show. That wasn't all that frustrating as they did say Sept. 1st the plan would resume. Another pickup reminder was received for Sept. 5th. Again JBG did not show. Most frustrating is paying for 52 shares up-front and only getting three boxes before the pause. Then to find out email is bouncing, JBG is completely silent on the matter, and worst has a good portion of my family's monthly grocery budget tied up in mystery. The only knows are what seems like a hit piece written by Austinchronicle.com here https://www.austinchronicle.com/daily/food/2021-08-23/wtf-is-happening-at-johnsons-backyard-garden/ and what I could find on Reddit which was far worse than what Austin Chronicle had to share. Whatever is going on it's not comfortable for those impacted. Hope for the best outcome for everyone in this matter!
I was charged for Saturday's CSA basket that wasn't there despite an email letting me know it would be. My email to the farm was undeliverable. No one is answering the phone or IMs. You need to stop charging your loyal customers for what's not being delivered.
Did anyone else get an e-mail that there was a delivery (in my case at Crestview) on 9/1? Well, it was not there.
Are y'all functioning? I haven't seen any shipments for pick up, your voicemail inbox is full at both farms, and there haven't been any responses to emails...

The Greens of Summer

The greens we’re growing this summer are especially well-suited to grow in warm… err… scorching weather, and this means they may be greens you’re accustomed to seeing. In fact, many of you have called and asked what the star-shaped leaf in your CSA box is (sweet potato greens), or what to do with the small but dense bunch of amaranath that you picked up at market.

Ratatouille Lasagna

"Growing up as kids, we didn’t always love all of the delicious summer veggies like zucchini and eggplant, but my mom was so savvy, she would always incorporate them into a pasta dish and we were none the wiser! This is where we got the idea to use lasagna pasta as a starch instead of the traditional potato in Ratatouille."

A Case for Eggplant

For many, eggplant is a big spongy question mark. Like a potato, eggplant can’t really be consumed raw, and perhaps it’s the necessity to cook the thing that makes it feel inaccessible. Or maybe it’s the slight bitterness that turns you off. Of all the vegetables we grow on the farm, eggplant is perhaps the one that’s most often ‘swapped out’ in our CSA program.

In today's post, however, we're making a case for eggplant.
