As resellers, it's interesting to watch the various ways that telcom providers choose to manage their revenue streams. Tower ownership is one area where companies are choosing very different approaches. German telco Deutsche Telekom chose to spin tower ownership into its own entity and then, in turn, sell that "TowerCo" to two different enterprises. Conversely, Orange, the French provider, has dug in its heels and insists that retaining ownership of their entire infrastructure is a key to its success. How all of this plays out in terms of scalability, innovation, and service remains to be seen but it's another area where the telcom industry is finding itself in new territory.

While remote work was certainly in practice before the COVID-19 pandemic, the circumstances helped it find its way to company culture in places where it hadn't existed previously. As the world settles into the landscape left on the other side of that crisis-borne shift, organizations are learning more about what makes successful. There will always be certain jobs and particular personalities that are better suited to remote work, but one common thread in leadership feedback is that a strong communications platform makes collaboration and project efficiency much more accessible.

The 2021 Communications Fraud Control Association fraud loss survey recorded a 28% increase in communications related fraud over the 2019 results. One cloud voice and SMS provider, Vonage, has set out to address this through a suite of fraud monitoring tools aligned with their products. Considering the alarming rate at which fraud cases are increasing, it is likely that other providers will soon follow suit.
