Since the pandemic I've been feeling like I have lost the ability to finish anything creative. The ideas never stopped coming but I have been been trapped at basecamp for years waiting for the weather to break and clear a path up the mountain.

I'm realizing the weather is not changing. The longer I wait, the harder it is to dig myself out so now is the time. I have health, I have a voice that works, and thankfully, I have help. Jamie Simon (my friend and world-class drummer) came down to Texas from Indiana on January 1st and helped me flesh out a handful of the songs I've been working on. I have a million songs started but I selected a handful to finish this year. Pandemic isolation songs, being in love songs, having your heart broken songs, being alive at the end of the world songs. Jamie came down and played some really amazing stuff and got me excited about these songs again.

I still have a lot of climbing to do but thank you Jamie Simon for getting me on the mountain.

Ten years ago today, 2/20/2015, we played the very first Big Jaw show. Tonight, 2/20/2025 is the final show on the same stage as the first one HOLE IN THE WALL. Come party with us one last time!

Bringing the Big Jaw project to a close on the same stage (Hole In The Wall in Austin) where it started exactly ten years earlier. I would love it if you could come out and help me put a period on this special chapter of my life.

Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Bo Diddley, Howlin Wolf, Buddy Guy, Little Milton; the list of absolute legends that have walked through this door at Chess Records is incredible. They all walked up these stairs to the recording studio (no photos allowed) on the second floor and made magic. It was amazing to sit in that room and soak it all in. To sit where Muddy Waters sat w a 23 year old Buddy Guy sitting next to him. To hear my voice bounce off the same walls. Apparently Keith Richards kissed the floor when the Stones made a record there. Why didn’t I think of that? Five stars. Must visit.
