Very grateful to be interviewed for this piece for alongside my colleague as we speak about being “progressive” Christians — AKA Christians who are so committed to following Jesus, we aren’t willing to let Christian Nationalism speak for God.

Moments like this are always kind of wild and strange to me. I’m having a very normal mom day (sick with a cold my baby brought home) and a normal ministry week (pastoral care, admin meetings on my docket). I know y’all are the reason I get asked to do things like this, so thank you 🩷 and, I really am just trying to be another bumbling, earnest fool seeking Jesus, refusing to let empire take him from me and also delighting in everyday grace glimmers along the way. You all give me great hope!

Yes, it has delightful feminist ramifications and connotations, but only because it reflects God’s image in all people … in such a way that predates modern definitions of feminism.

And it truly baffles me that for all the things I hear from folks who encounter Christianity differently than I do, the number one thing I’ll hear protests against is understanding God beyond “He/Him” pronouns. I am not even nixing them, I *joyfully* say the Our Father in the 2,000 year old liturgy over which I preside every week.

I’m just asking us to be biblically literate and theologically astute enough to know God isn’t *literally a dude* 😭💔
