It’s that time of year again. The NHC has outlined an area in the Bay of Campeche for the 10% likelihood that an area of low pressure develops and organizes into a named storm.

Impacts are unclear at this time, but this may offer some increased moisture and precipitation to South Texas this weekend if the system materializes.

Texas is turning up the heat, but storm chances aren’t completely gone.

The next few days bring a very June-like pattern: hot, humid, and mostly quiet for many of us, but with storm chances focused mainly across the Panhandle, South Plains, and parts of West/Northwest Texas.

Some storms up that way could be strong to severe with hail and damaging wind. For the rest of Texas, the bigger story is the heat — highs well into the 90s, triple digits out west/northwest, and heat index values around or above 100 in several areas.

By Friday into the weekend, we’ll watch for a front and outflow boundaries trying to bring storm chances farther south and east. That setup is still messy, so don’t take one app icon or model run as gospel.

Bottom line: hot first, storms mainly northwest for now, then rain chances try to expand again later this week.

Happy Monday! Summer has arrived in Texas, even if the calendar says we still have a little time to go.

Today’s high temperatures tell the story: triple digits are back across parts of West Texas and the Panhandle, while the eastern half of Texas deals with lower thermometer numbers but much higher humidity.

That means the “feels-like” temperature may be 10 to 20 degrees hotter than the actual air temperature in some spots. Translation: gross, sticky, and very Texas.

A few spotty storms are possible today, especially across parts of Central Texas, the Brazos Valley, South Texas, Southeast Texas, and the Panhandle. Most folks stay dry compared to last week, but any storm that does pop up can still produce lightning, gusty winds, and brief heavy rain.

Fire danger is also creeping back up across parts of the Panhandle and West Texas where recent rain was limited.

Take it easy this week. Drink water, take breaks, check on folks who struggle with heat, and do not underestimate the humidity.

Full forecast and video will be in the comments.
