More land acquired! 🎉
Just an hour west of Kerrville, Devil's Sinkhole State Natural Area will be growing and is set to gain a trails system.
Access to the park is currently by guided access only. The long-term plans for the property tentatively include a headquarters building, maintenance area, and overnight opportunities.
This acquisition is thanks to the Land and Water Conservation Fund, as well as Texans who voted for the Sporting Goods Sales Tax.

It’s Raccoon Appreciation Day y’all! These silly little guys are always watching you and your cooler. They can be mischievous but they’re just raccoons doing raccoon things.
They play a big role in our ecosystem by munching on insects and small rodents, which helps keep the food web in balance. They might snag your snacks but they definitely help make the world a better place in their own trash panda way… 🫶

This weekend we welcomed many visitors as we celebrated the launch of the Texas Buffalo Soldiers Heritage Trail at Abilene State Park. Everyone got to experience an authentic Buffalo Soldier encampment and see what life on the trail was really like.
You can now virtually explore the trails the Buffalo Soldiers traveled across Texas and even add them to your next road trip adventure.

Help us congratulate Director of Texas State Parks, Rodney Franklin! For earning the Distinguished Service Award from America's State Parks, a top honor reserved for leaders who truly move the needle.
Starting his career as a park ranger, Rodney has risen through the ranks through his 35 years of service. Using his passions to help advance conservation and park management not only in Texas but across the country. In 2023, Franklin guided our state parks to a National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management, marking it as one of the premier park networks in the United States.
We are so proud of this well deserved recognition. Congratulations Rodney you continue to make Texas shine! 🤠 YEEHAWW

Yoodelayheehoo! ✨ NEW PARK UNLOCKED ✨
Acquired back in 2025, Post Oak Ridge State Park will soon begin welcoming visitors for day use. You can now make reservations and explore the park at your own pace.
The park sits right next door to Colorado Bend State Park and is built with amenities designed intentionally to protect the sensitive ecosystems found here. Explore 3.5 miles of rolling hill country trails with several scenic overlooks.
As gates get ready to open, the park will still be under development. We encourage visitors to plan ahead, bring plenty of water, and be aware that cell coverage in the park is limited.
