Effective now, the National Association of REALTORS® has implemented significant changes in how members interact with buyers and sellers, particularly concerning compensation practices. These changes result from a settlement (resulting from a case that seems impossible to lose) with the Department of Justice and aim to increase transparency as it relates to Buyer Agent compensation. The National Association of Realtors will require its members to enter into Buyer-Brokerage agreements, the equivalent of a listing agreement on the buyer's side. When I got my license 24 years ago, this was the SOP's normal business practice.
