Roos van der Vliet sharing her thoughts on a continually relevant issue for anyone pursuing the arts ✨👏

I can't afford to buy my own paintings. Maybe a very small one, after selling a bunch of works in a short period of time. Maybe. I know that's the reality for many artists, and I personally don't care that much if it'll be like this for my whole life, because as long as I can keep painting the days away, I'm satisfied. I don't want much, but being able to pay my rent on time would be nice. I mean it. I don't need much. But it's strange that it works this way, that I make things I can't afford.

This is a shout out to all of you who like my work or the works of any other artist: If you've ever considered buying something but you were afraid to ask if it's still available, or because you thought a painting might be too expensive for you, or maybe you didn't want to negotiate (which is of course a bit 'not done', but I personally rather negotiate with you and make us both happy in the end than having a studio full of 'leftover' paintings that nobody sees), please know that by buying art you're supporting the artists who's work you've been enjoying on Instagram/Facebook/any other platform for free. If you want to make sure the artists you love so much will keep on making new works, that they will keep on inspiring you, please contact them because maybe you can in fact afford a piece. At least a small one maybe. Or a print. Or a set of postcards. You can hang it on a real wall instead of looking at it on your screen. Please get in touch. Thank you. Love, Roos
