Ms. Mary's son Christopher reached out to see if we could help his mom with an accessible shower since she can no longer safely step into her bathtub. We told him we'd be happy to! We sent out Armando with A.H. Roofing and construction who has done this for us dozens of times before and got her a new walk in shower with a seat and hand hold bars for support!

These are just some of the emergency repairs our elderly neighbors face—many on fixed incomes, with nowhere else to turn.

One of our awesome FON Squad volunteers came by to visit Ms. Ramona in Kirkwood. When he went to open her storm door, the whole door fell off in his hand. He was glad it happened when he opened the door instead of when she was trying to get out in her wheelchair! Armando with AH Roofing & Construction LLC is measuring the doors so that he can get a pricing on replacing the front and side doors. Both of them have a great deal of rot and they need to be completely replaced. Ms. Ramona actually lives in one of the few homes built by Habitat for Humanity here in Kirkwood.

We’ve helped out our disabled neighbor Phil on Kirkwood Rd many times with small little tasks. When he found out we’d be willing to give him an accessible shower, he was in disbelief! Armando with A.H. Roofing and Construction, ordered this walk in shower with a seat, demoed the old bath tub and wall, installed the new shower and installed hold bars along with new wood-look linoleum flooring.

"I am a long time Kirkwood resident with a sever spinal disability and fixed income. Getting in and out of my bath tub to shower was getting increasingly difficult. I contacted Justin Schaeffer at Neighbor in need and within a short time he employed Armando Hernandez who did a complete bathroom remodel. Now I have a safe, handicapped accessible bathroom and love it. Bottom line, I could not afford to live here without Neighbor In Need. Thanks Justin!" -Phil
