What if the first signs of cognitive decline aren't memory loss?

The connection between blood sugar, inflammation, metabolic health, and brain function is becoming impossible to ignore.

A 2025 meta-analysis reviewing 37 studies and over 25 million pregnancies found a small association between prenatal antidepressant exposure and increased rates of ADHD and autism spectrum disorder in children.

But the most important takeaway is often missed:

When researchers adjusted for confounding factors — including maternal mental health, genetics, and familial influences — many of these associations became significantly weaker or non-significant.

Even paternal antidepressant use showed similar associations, suggesting that underlying genetic and environmental factors may play a larger role than medication exposure alone.

The authors concluded that antidepressant treatment should still be continued for pregnant women with moderate-to-severe depression, emphasizing that optimizing BOTH maternal and paternal mental health is critical for long-term neurodevelopment.

This is why individualized care matters.

Mental health, neurodevelopment, inflammation, genetics, environmental exposures, and nervous system regulation are deeply interconnected — and simplistic conclusions rarely tell the full story.

At Scire Integrative Health Center, we believe in looking at the whole neurological picture while helping families make informed, evidence-based decisions.

At Scire Integrative Health Center, we believe conversations about mental health should also include conversations about:

• neuroinflammation
• nervous system regulation
• sleep
• nutrition
• sensory overload
• brain-based rehabilitation

Because brain health and mental health are deeply connected.

1 in 6 kids are struggling with their mental health — and we have to start asking why.

Why are anxiety, depression, panic attacks, emotional dysregulation, and burnout showing up earlier than ever before? Why are so many children and young adults feeling overwhelmed by life before they’ve even had the chance to fully experience it?

Mental health is not just “in their head.” Brain health, nervous system regulation, inflammation, sleep, nutrition, stress, environmental factors, and neurological imbalance all play a role in how children think, feel, and function.

At Scire Integrative Health Center, we believe the conversation needs to go beyond symptom management and toward understanding the underlying causes affecting the developing brain.
Because struggling this young should never be considered “normal.” 🧠

What If Mental Health Isn’t Just Mental? 05/05/2026

Mental health is more than emotions—it’s rooted in the brain.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re taking a closer look at the neurological factors that often go overlooked… from past concussions to imbalances in how the brain communicates.

Because when you support the brain, you support mood, focus, and emotional resilience.

In this month’s email:
• The hidden drivers of anxiety & depression
• Brain-supportive nutrients backed by research
• Why so many adolescents are struggling—and how neuro rehab can help

No two children with autism are the same—so why should their care be?

At Scire Integrative Health Center, we don’t follow a one-size-fits-all model. We evaluate how each child’s brain is functioning and build a customized neuro-rehabilitation plan using Melillo Method protocols.

Because real progress happens when care is designed for the individual—not the diagnosis.
