We wouldn't be able to host these social events for our students without the support of the corporate members of the MIS Advisory Board (and in particular the Black Corporate level members!) In addition to their generous financial support, our students especially appreciate all the branded swag they can win through our games, raffles, and trivia competitions.

The MIS Department hosted the MIS Academic Leadership Conference (MALC) to over 100 MIS thought leaders, department heads, associate deans, and deans from around the world. The conference featured an opening reception, keynote talk by Bill Franks on analytics and AI, a debate in historical Demosthenian Hall on the long-term impact of AI on jobs, and a Georgia-style football tailgate. Panels included deans discussing the trends and opportunities for MIS in business schools, innovative ideas and opportunities, AI in the MIS curriculum, “hot takes” on MIS related issues, fund raising best practices, journal editors discussing publication trends and issues.
Set aside the SEC tension to share an awesome weekend with our LSU counterpart…not sure it’ll remain😉

Just finished wrapping up our Top 10% Event hosted a couple weeks ago. It was a wonderful time spent between students and company representatives, celebrating students on a job well done. Looking forward to next year, hopefully without a mid-event fire alarm.

Back with another “Thursday Thoughts” from our outback cowboy, Rick thinks…
“Information Systems is a thinking profession because you continually confront new problems and technology. You need to learn to think at three levels: low, medium, and high. At the low level, you must learn to think like a programmer, which means you can envision the detail necessary to design an app or a process. You see the overall sequence, the major logic branches, and where loops and functions are needed to create compact and elegant code. Because I like thinking, I still enjoy thinking through a problem and coding a solution, especially on Thursdays.”
