Many teenagers think of MLK day as simply another day off from school. It is so much more than that. The birthday of Dr. King is a day dedicated to his memory of social service and equality. It is only fitting that we commemorate him by participate in acts of selflessness so that we can truly demonstrate that his vision is alive in well even after his death. Volunteering on MLK day is a way to show your appreciation and gratitude to your community. It’s a way of giving back to your community after it has spent years nurturing you and teaching many of life’s lessons. MLK day is about showing how the ability to put others’ needs ahead of our own can make a difference in a world. It all starts with one person and a choice. Volunteerism on this day is a choice in the right direction. The community can often times seem inconsistent on how it views teenagers. But YOUthServe provides an opportunity to show your community how integral and important you are by providing volunteer opportunities. Take your chance now.
