[ C-U-B-E: Designer's Talk ] After Design School by Kylie Sawhill
1:25pm, April 12 ( Wed ), N225
Developing a design education into a comfortable career requires sharp design skills, business savvy, and a heaping dose of luck. Design school teaches design dexterity and hopefully supplies enough flashy projects to create an eye-catching portfolio. Yet the subsequent challenges can be daunting: navigating the nuances of choosing a suitable job, landing the gig, and keeping the position (and your sanity). Drawing on three years of post-graduation employment, I'll share how to effectively bridge the gap between student and professional designer.

Kylie Sawhill works as a designer at a tech company in Athens, GA. Since graduating from UGA's graphic design program in 2013 she has worked in agency, freelance, and in-house roles around town with dozens of local businesses. She finds inspiration in the aesthetics of mathematics and science and enjoys organizing all kinds of visual information into compelling design systems.

[C-U-B-E] Knitting: See One, Do One, Teach One
Fabric Students Exhibit Work and Demo Knitting in C-U-B-E Gallery!
Knitting: See One, Do One, Teach One is on view this week, April 3 – April 7, 2017, in the C-U-B-E Gallery on second floor north (N231). The phrase ‘See One, Do One, Teach One’ is a method derived from western medical practices which implies how one learns a procedure, then conducts the procedure, then teaches another. Fabric students will be demonstrating the knitting process to others in the School of Art in the C-U-B-E Gallery at the following times:
• Thursday, April 6, 11 am – 12 pm & 2:30 – 4:30
• Friday, April 7, 12 – 1 pm
This workshop was designed by ARST 2700 Textile Foundations students and Assistant Professor in Fabric Design Jennifer Crenshaw.
