💙GEARY’S VET VISIT💙
Many of you may remember Geary 💙, the 13-pound poodle mix who arrived at the shelter as a stray in terrible condition—severely matted and covered in what appeared to be a gasoline or chemical-like substance.

After his mats were removed, Geary developed extensive redness and bruising across his chest and body, so we brought him to Philadelphia Animal Hospital to make sure he was okay.

The diagnosis was actually very eye-opening.

The mats had been pulling tightly against Geary’s skin for so long that they compromised circulation and left the skin underneath inflamed and fragile. Once the painful mats were shaved away, the damaged tissue and tiny blood vessels beneath the surface began to show significant bruising.

In other words, the bruising wasn’t caused by the grooming—it was evidence of just how severe the matting had become. 💔

The good news? Geary’s bloodwork looked great, he’s up to date on vaccines and preventatives, and there are no concerns moving forward. He received an anti-inflammatory injection and is taking antibiotics while his skin continues to heal.

A huge thank you to Philadelphia Animal Hospital for taking such wonderful care of our boy!

Today, Geary is thriving in his foster home, and feeling great!

From severe neglect to a bright future ahead—this sweet boy is proof that second chances matter.
