Natural Environment Teaching (NET) is a method which uses the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy to teach in the natural environment. Skills need to be functional. A child can memorize lots of numbers, labels, & words, but if they need to be able to use them in everyday contexts. NET is wonderful for teaching this generalization of skills.

Gross Motor Skills are abilities that let children do tasks that involve the larger muscles in their body such as their arms, legs and torso. Some examples of gross motor skills we can expect to see in this playroom are crawling, running, jumping, throwing, and climbing.

Today's focuses on . Generalization occurs when a client applies what they've learned to another situation, person, or context!

For example, when learning to identify colors during an session, the client then uses those same learned skills at home to tell their mom they want a red cup. Generalization is important in therapy, as it ensures that skills taught are able to be used in real world settings. Practicing skills using multiple examples, with different people, or different instructions are all ways we foster generalization in sessions.

We are delighted to announce that Acorn Health has achieved designation as an autism evaluation center approved by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network. This Approved Autism Evaluation Center (AAEC) program will initially take place at the following Acorn Health Michigan locations: Traverse City, Ga***rd, and Grand Rapids (East Paris location).

We are even more thrilled to announce that Acorn Health is the first non-academic, non-hospital-affiliated provider to achieve this designation, and are excited for what this means for families.
