I’m sitting on a train from Paris to Kaiserslautern, Germany. For those of you metrically challenged, that speed indicator says 185 mph.

It’s not rough, pretty smooth in fact. Smooth enough that the porter was able to bring me an order of wine, and that I can drink it without a sippy-cup.

We could have easy, inexpensive train travel in the US, if we wanted to have it. Almost every other industrialized nation does.

But a few senators from states block it.

That’s why we can’t have nice things.
