What a wild storm across the Fox Valley yesterday!
It’s been a tough 24 hours for many families. While the storms moved through the area, I was providing doula support for a family during their (successful!) hospital VBAC. Watching the winds whip outside the large hospital windows was incredible… and terrifying.
My own kids were at home taking shelter in the basement. We were very close to where the tornado came through, but thankfully only had minimal damage and everyone is safe. I know many others weren’t as fortunate.
If you’re dealing with damage, power outages, or just feeling overwhelmed, I hope you’re finding the support you need.
If you’re one of my clients and the storms have affected your home, your plans, or your ability to make it to an appointment, please reach out. We’ll figure it out together. And if there’s another way I can help or connect you with resources, don’t hesitate to ask.
Thinking of our Fox Valley community today. I hope everyone is safe.
(Picture from a news article- not taken by me. I got no pictures because I was messaging my kids to take cover. 😅)

I'm excited to share a new chapter for Fox Valley Midwifery!
After a lot of thought, I've decided to transition routine prenatal visits to a dedicated office space. Some of you may recognize it - it's currently home to another wonderful local midwife as she prepares for retirement. We'll be sharing the space for a short time before she transitions out this fall, and I'm grateful to continue caring for families in a place that has already welcomed so many babies and parents over the years.
When I started my practice, I intentionally offered home prenatal visits because I love getting to know families in the place where they live and where many would welcome their baby. As Fox Valley Midwifery has grown, though, I've realized that spending so much time driving between appointments isn't sustainable. Those hours on the road are hours I'm not able to review labs, complete charting, coordinate referrals, return messages, or prepare for births. Moving prenatal visits to the office allows me to protect that time so I can continue providing thoughtful, individualized care.
For new clients enrolling with Fox Valley Midwifery, routine prenatal visits will take place in the office. You'll still receive:
🤍 A home visit around 36 weeks to prepare your birth space.
🤍 Your first two postpartum visits in the comfort of your home.
🤍 The same relationship-centered midwifery care throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
If you're already in care, NOTHING IS CHANGING unless you'd like it to. You'll absolutely be able to continue with home prenatal visits as originally planned. If you'd prefer to switch to office visits though, I'd love to offer a discount as a thank-you for helping make this transition a little smoother. Just let me know, and I'll share the details.
To be clear, this isn't about seeing more clients - it's about creating a sustainable way to continue offering the unhurried, personalized care that drew many of you to home birth midwifery in the first place.

Welcome earthside,
Nova Kai Jubilee Ko!
With their permission, I’m honored to share this family‘s birth story in their own words.
“Nova Kai was born at home, at our “summer house” on Lake Michigan, in Oconto, WI.
Nova’s shoulders measured one inch wider than the circumference of her head— which the midwife had never seen such a big difference before!! We experienced shoulder dystocia during birth (Nova’s head was crowning but her shoulder got “stuck” behind my pelvis) and led to a very intense birth! But the midwife navigated it very well, and Maria gave birth naturally & powerfully. Nova recovered very well, within the minute after the intense exit.
Meaning of her name:
Nova = new, fresh, starlike brilliance, explosion of light/energy
Kai = restoration/recovery, ocean/sea, triumph/victory
Jubilee = fresh start/reset
Freedom was elated to meet her new sister! Reinado was quite apprehensive but is warming up well. Maria is recovering and En Tao is doing a phenomenal job managing the kids & all the demands of postpartum. “
** Typically, the head is a larger circumference than the chest circumference. I have never measured a baby to find the chest/shoulders bigger, and it definitely explained why she needed a little help out!
