Waste Less Weddings

This weekend was my first time coordinating a private property wedding! My husband and I tagteammed this one at for a gorgeous beach-side, Memorial Day Weekend wedding! All in all it was a FANTASTIC day, and I learned a few tips for facilitating private property weddings:

1. Open seating = chaos. It can work, but you have to account for extras of everything - extra tables, centerpieces, place settings etc., and ultimately that will cost you extra money.

2. Consider and order enough garbage cans for EACH space guests will be (cocktail/hang out spaces, reception tents, bar areas) - the last thing you want is all the guests asking you where garbages are and having to run outside to the tent to borrow one (only to bring it back out later in the evening).

3. Don't underestimate the amount of labor that goes into setting up or moving chairs, bringing linens outside, taking out garbages, moving items between ceremony and reception spaces etc. If you don't have a coordinator team, expect to shoulder tap a handful of family members or wedding guests to help out - you'll realize there's way more to do without venue staff than you may have anticipated!

4. The more space between locations, the more buffer time you need between events and time to herd guests back and forth. The larger the guest list too, the more time it takes for guests to travel and arrive at new spaces.

5. Clear guest instructions lead to a more enjoyable guest experience. If guests are confused where they should go or what they need to be doing, they'll most remember being uncomfortable or bored. Sometimes signage is extra and unnecessary, sometimes it is absolutely essential. Coordinators/planners can help you decide which you need for your wedding!
