This portrait is healed. The second picture (with the black background) is when it was freshly done 10 months ago. You can see a clear difference between the dark values of the fresh vs the more settled and balanced values of the healed. When tattooing realism (especially portraits) it’s important that the tattoo artist tattoos for the final, healed product, and not just the Instagram photo. If a tattoo looks “just like the reference” when it’s fresh - then it’s probably going to heal too light. I’m happy to see how this one turned out and would love to do more portraits!
