✔️ Step 1: Root retouch to create a softer, more natural base.
✔️ Step 2: Full head of foils—but here’s the trick! I applied shampoo inside the foils to help diffuse the blonde while lifting, creating a seamless, lived-in effect.
✔️ Step 3: Applied the base color all over the hair left out of the foils to blend everything together beautifully.

✨ COLOR CORRECTION 101: Fixing Box-Dye Black Like a Pro! ✨

New stylists, let’s talk about one of the most challenging (but rewarding!) color corrections you’ll come across—removing black box dye while keeping the hair healthy and achieving a soft, dimensional brunette.

Many clients turn to at-home box dye, thinking they’re getting a beautiful dark brown, but instead, they end up with flat, jet-black hair that makes their skin appear harsh and accentuates fine lines. So, how do you take them from that dense, inky black to a rich, youthful brunette without causing major damage?

🔸 The Process:
✅ Assess the Hair – Box dye builds up unevenly, so check porosity, elasticity, and underlying tones before diving in.
✅ Gentle Pigment Removal – Use a color remover (not bleach!) to break up artificial dye molecules without unnecessary stress on the hair.
✅ Controlled Lifting – Low & slow is the name of the game! A low-volume lightener (10 or 20 vol) with a bond protector lifts the remaining dark pigments while preserving the hair’s integrity.
✅ Fill & Tone Correctly – Once you lift through the orange/red stage, you’ll need to replace missing pigments before toning to a soft, natural brunette. Skip this step, and you’ll risk muddy or hollow results!
✅ Deep Conditioning & pH Balancing – Box-dyed hair is often over-processed and dry, so hydration and protein balance are key in keeping the final result looking healthy and shiny.

The result? A soft, dimensional brunette that enhances the client’s features instead of washing them out! With patience and the right techniques, you can transform harsh, artificial box-dyed black into a rich, youthful, and natural-looking color.
