We want to thank everyone who attended yesterday's USCCA Free community Event "Protecting your House of Worship" at the American Legion post 67 in Cary NC.
We hope everyone brought home and to their congregation some knowledge to help prevent and respond to the growing active shooter threat.

Staying Aware

Stay alert and aware of your surroundings at all times, keeping your head up and minimizing phone use while walking. Be conscience of how YOU are projecting into your environment.

Two key habits include trusting your gut instincts and maintaining safe physical distance.

Scan the area: Look around corners and keep your eyes open.

Avoid distractions: Keep your headphones low or off in busy or dark places.

Trust your feelings: Leave a place or person if something feels wrong.

Moving with Confidence/Walk tall:

Stand straight and look like you know where you are going.

Keep hands free: Do not carry too many bags so you can move fast if needed.

Stay in the light: Pick paths that are bright and have people around.

As we are wrapping up July and getting into the HOT NC August summer, a prime time for travel, festivals, and group events, we wanted to remind you to stay aware, stay safe, and always be vigilant.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics and the Department of Justice both show that personal and violent crime does rise in the summer months.

The summertime also brings an increase in medical emergencies: heat exhaustion and heat stroke, dehydration, recreational injuries/trauma, and burns all increase during these months.

So STAY COOL!
Keep yourself hydrated and in cooler temperatures, but also keep a cool head by keeping your situational awareness up and being ready to respond when needed.
