Get ready for this storm! Our advice for protecting and getting the most out of your heat pump during this upcoming storm.

- If mainly snow, we would advise you to run the system as normal.
- Keep an eye on snow accumulation around the sides and top of the unit and clear as needed. 12”-18” clear space around the unit is ideal.
- If snow and ice freeze on the fan blades, pour hot (not boiling) water over the blades to release and clear any ice before running.

If there is significant ice expected:

- We recommend temporarily utilizing your Auxiliary / Emergency heat during the worst of the storm (heat mode OFF / aux heat ON)
- Turn off and cover the top of your heat pump with something sturdy. Plywood or similar works great for this. Tarps can often cause other issues, but in a pinch might be better than nothing. Make sure your heat pump is not running while covered.
- Once the storm has passed uncover and clear any snow build-up around the sides (12”-18” clearance)
- Check that the defrost drain / base pan on the heat pump isn’t buried or frozen solid.
- Once cleared dont forget to turn that emergency heat off!

We hope this helps! We typically field many service calls after a storm like this - most of which can be avoided by following the advice above.

Out with the old…. This customer learned the hard way that her long time HVAC company was all talk and no action. A speedy 15-minute “maintenance” service in May left her high and dry when her compressor bit the dust this Tuesday.

But hey, every cloud has a silver lining! Only two days after calling us, she's now the proud owner of a brand new Bosch 20 SEER system that qualified for an instant $2000 utilty rebate AND a $2000 tax credit

Installed with precision and care, we’ll make sure to maintain it the same way Take note, folks: a little AC maintenance goes a long way! Make sure your HVAC company is actually cleaning your unit!!!!

10 HVAC Tips to Help Homeowners Prepare for a Heat Wave 06/24/2025

It's a HOT one today! 🥵🔥 On days like this, your AC is working EXTRA hard to keep up...please don't under-estimate how effective some of these tips can be to keep your house cool. AND help your AC work more efficiently! 💪❄️

❄️ Close ALL blinds, curtains and exterior doors! Over 75% of the sunlight that comes through a standard, double-pane window becomes heat inside your home.

❄️ Use your ceiling fans wisely! Ceiling fans don’t lower the temp, but they make you feel cooler by circulating air. Set fans to rotate counterclockwise and raise your thermostat a few degrees without losing comfort.

❄️ Don't use heat-producing appliances during the day. Running the oven, dryer, or dishwasher during the hottest part of the day adds a lot of heat to your home. Eat out, save the laundry for the evening and run the dishwasher overnight!

❄️ Give your outdoor unit some SHADE! If your AC’s outdoor unit is located in a shady spot, it won’t have to work as hard to cool air as it would in direct sunlight. Put up an outdoor umbrella to cast some shade on the unit. Just make sure the unit has at least one foot of horizontal clearance and five feet of vertical clearance.

We hope these tips help you stay cool and comfy in your home this week. If your AC is having issues, or just decides to quit, give us a call at 📱(240)298-6521 OR (667)646-0247 and we’ll get a tech out ASAP! 👨‍🔧
