Happy 4th of July

Well, it was touch and go, an emergency trip to the vet, hospitalization but he made it.

Nix is eating 6 meals a day, now that it’s getting colder, her meals are being warmed up. She’s getting the best supplements and has turnout as she wishes. As winter progresses, she gets back on her usual routine of meals twice a day and unlimited hay. This is Piper’s usual routine. They are both blooming and blossoming and everything was going well … until it wasn’t.

Or so we thought, Nix, being our biggest Diva doesn’t know about smooth sailing til delivery. She deems herself an inside girl with minimal turnout. In July , she had her first Pneumabort vaccine, she had them again in September and November (safeguard against losing the foal). Around October, she began to show signs of colic. We usually don’t haul a pregnant mare after 100 days but she was loaded up and hauled to her home away from home, the vet hospital. She was treated for colitis and our vet came up with a meal plan for feeding her six times a day. We brought her home and began the new feed schedule, which she loved but the other horses were very jealous. Smooth sailing….right, it wasn’t.
